BIG HEART BIG PUSH!

The response to the campaign to make CFC “debt-free” has been overwhelming.
When it was announced that the community was left saddled with total loans
amounting to almost P20 million, and an appeal for help was made, no one
anticipated the enormity of the response. The total indebtedness was broken down
into P10.4 million in bank loans and P9.2 million in bridge financing from some
members. The campaign to rid CFC of its debts, called One Time, Big Time, was

A RESPONSE TO FFL’S “THE REAL ISSUE”

The Foundation for Family and Life has been circulating a document entitled “The Real Issue” in the African continent. While it contains mostly rehashed issues, which have been addressed many times before, the Ugnayan Multimedia Center deemed it best to reply to these issues once and for all, in the interest of truth, and to finally lay these matters to rest.

For clarity’s sake, we are first reprinting in toto the FFL document. Our (CFC's) point-by-point response follows (in bold letters).

The Real Issue

SALVATION

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall i fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall i be afraid? PSALM 27:1. There's no reason for us to be afraid. If we only trust and believe in Him, we will be saved and be able to see and join Him in heaven. The time is NOW... He is the way, the truth and the life; no one can come to Our Father EXCEPT THROUGH HIM. Let's live a good christian life and offer the things we do for the glory of God and IN JESUS NAME...

Dear brethren:

We view with concern reports that the brethren are being unduly disturbed by the article that appeared in ABS-CBN News Online on April 15, 2008 entitled "Vatican Admonishes Couples for Christ Over Gawad Kalinga."

We would like to inform you of the following actions that the International Council has taken in this connection:

MANILA, Philippines—The Vatican merely intended to guide and correct Gawad Kalinga’s “overemphasis on social work” when it sent a letter to Couples for Christ (CFC) chiding it for its “erroneous steps,” according to an official of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines.

Antipolo Bishop Gabriel Reyes, chair of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on the Laity, Thursday told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that the Vatican had the authority and duty to remind and guide lay groups.

SFC Definition

SFC is a generation of single men and women experiencing the fullness of life and restoring the world for Christ.

What is Singles for Christ and how it started?

Countless professional single men and women are burdened by the demands of society to be successful in their respective fields. CFC Singles for Christ (SFC) is part of the family ministries of Couples for Christ (CFC), a Catholic Family Renewal Ministry which started in 1983 in the Philippines. The need to nurture to not just married couples came about not long after the birth of CFC and 10 years later, on June 18, 1993, the CFC elders met at the CFC Leader`s Conference at Xavier School in San Juan, Metro Manila to launch the family ministries. These are CFC Kids for Christ (KFC), CFC Youth for Christ (YFC), CFC Handmaids of the Lord (HOLD), CFC Servants of the Lord (SOLD) and CFC Singles for Christ (SFC).

What is the Philosophy Statement of SFC?

The following embodies the beliefs and ideals of the CFC SINGLES FOR CHRIST as a ministry, from which flow the Christian attitudes, values and behavior, as well as its programs, teachings and approaches to Christian renewal.

We BELIEVE that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit and we safeguard its sanctity by being pure in thoughts, in words and in deeds.

What is the Mission Statement of SFC?

The single men and women today live in a difficult age. In a new world rapid change and unprecedented evil, they need to chart the course of their own lives. The face an uncertain future, without much to hold on to since traditional support structures are starting to break up around them. Being on their own now, they experience tremendous pressure to succeed, or perhaps for most, simply to survive.

7 Pillars of SFC

TO RAISE A GENERATION OF LEADERS AND MARTYRS

Raising a generation means to grow in numbers. Raising a generation is to empower and build up more and more committed single men and women to respond to the greater work of our community.

7 Generations of Singles for Christ
What do we need to achieve this?

We need leaders and martyrs
a renewed society of single men and women – renewed in faith, renewed in love and renewed in personal holiness. Giving their 100% to God – purity, excellence and commitment
Living as good witnesses. Willing to make a stand

The Christian Life Program (CLP)

The CLP is an integrated course intended to lead the program participants into a renewed understanding of God's call to them as Christian couples. It runs for a total of 13 separate sessions, usually held once a week. Most sessions consist of three basic ingredients: a teaching, a group discussion, and a time for fellowship. Each session would normally last for about 2 1/2 hours.

What are the goals of the CLP?

The CLP has two basic purposes: evangelism and spiritual renewal.

Life after school is a time for excitement and challenge. But, many single men and women soon realize that real life is very different from what they have learned in school. Many lose their idealism as the are confronted with the reality of evil in the marketplace. And so they start to compromise their values. Earning money gives them a new freedom to make choices and a new sense of power to buy and to own. But the lack of values and a sense of responsibility to go with this new freedom can lead many of them in a path away from God. The chart career paths that do not consider God as a priority and, worse, develop new activities and habits, including vices, that make them turn away from God. This will only lead them to a life of loneliness, frustrations, and despair.

We believe that God has a plan for us to live a meaningful, happy and productive lives at this stage of our human existence. Given the formidable obstacles that we face, we need a renewed relationship with God and the power of the Holy Spirit to live a new life. We need a support environment where God's plan is revealed to us and where we can draw strength from other single men and women who are committed to love and support us. We need a group where our energy and talents can be developed and put to good use to serve God and His people. We need a place where we can be formed to prepare us for the next stage of our lives, to marry or to live a single life in total dedication to the Lord.

We therefore commit to the work of personal renewal and evangelization in our milieu as part of the larger work of the Couples for Christ family and in line with it's global mission of "renewing the face of the earth."

What is the Philosophy Statement of SFC?

The following embodies the beliefs and ideals of the CFC Singles for Christ as a ministry, from which flow the Christian attitudes, values and behavior, as well as its programs, teachings and approaches to Christian renewal.

  1. WE BELIEVE that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit and we safeguard its sanctity by being pure in thought, in word and in deed.

  2. WE BELIEVE that God gave us gifts and talents with which we can serve and glorify Him and which allow us to live fruitful lives. We believe in the proper stewardship of these gifts by striving to succeed in our chosen work or profession without sacrificing our Christian values and ethics.

  3. WE BELIEVE in the indissolubility of Christian marriage and the importance of family life in the plan of God, in the sanctity of human life and the right of the unborn child.

  4. WE BELIEVE that we are called to live out our faith fully and to share actively in the life and mission of our Church — through prayers, evangelization and service to others.

  5. WE BELIEVE that Christian family renewal can best be achieved by inviting Jesus to be the Lord of our homes and by allowing the power of the Holy Spirit to lead our family lives and through the full use of all charismatic gifts at our disposal.

  6. WE BELIEVE in living productive lives as citizens of our country, obeying its laws and respecting its institutions. We believe that we have a duty to the future generations, in protecting our natural environment and in combating the proliferation of evil in our social environment.

  7. WE BELIEVE that individual and corporate renewal can best be achieved by having a deep personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior by calling upon the power of the Holy Spirit in our day-to day life and by making full use of all charismatic gifts at our disposal.

What is CFC Singles for Christ?

CFC Singles for Christ aims to provide a Christian support environment for single men and women who are at the crossroads of their state of life, choosing between marriage, a religious vocation, or single blessedness.

Singles for Christ as a support environment:

  • teaches the individual the right values to build their future on; surrounds the individual with friends who are well-meaning and have a positive influence;

  • provides the individual with opportunities to meet potential partners in life who believe in the same Christian goals and values;

  • involves the individual in service that prepares them for the responsibility of marriage and family life; and,

  • helps those with a vocation for the priesthood or religious life to discern their calling.

SFC uses a three-pronged evangelization approach: Attraction, Retention and Transistion. Attraction establishes creative ways of bringing single men and women to community. Retention keeps members actively involved through community life expereince and innovative formation. Transition involves the proper transition of youth to singles and singles to couples.

CFC's Seven Pillars

1. Evangelization and Mission

A dedicated group of CFC leaders and members deal with this by providing backroom and frontline support for evangelization work; ensuring the operations of the CFC Home Office; and other matters such as development of teachings and formation courses, counseling services, and financial accounting.

3. Family Ministries

CFC aspires to be a "womb-to-tomb" family renewal community: it seeks to evangelize every family member other than the couple, and to support them at all stages of life.
